In light of George Siemens’s comments, do you see technology, especially the Read/Write Web, as an opportunity to help students “become” more democratic and sensitive toward individual freedom or not? Is it the responsibility of the educator to ensure that students are not networking only with people who think like themselves? I look forward to your thoughts
The challenge, as stated in other blog responses, is to not limit the resources for our students to our “narrow thoughts or comfort zone.” Our obligation is to allow students to become critical thinkers and become more democratic. We must not allow our personal restrictions to inhibit the thought process of the students we are encouraging to grow.
Secondly, we do have a responsibility to gather what the students feel comfortable with and then navigate in an opposite direction. This will channel new doors to open and networking in areas that will bring enrichment, dialogue and possible controversy. The hope is that this sparks positive debate and develops more critical thinking.

Is there a particular example of a classroom wiki which inspired you? All of the wiki information was inspiring to see the endless possibilities that can be done once this is mastered (hopefully in my next few weeks I’ll get better).

What was most challenging about creating a wiki together as a group in Activity 5-C-1? It  was challenging with my site and logon data not allowing me to communicate in any formal manner. I can only imagine the frustration on the other end. I wouldn’t use this for work and my boss stated it probably will never happen internally due to the complex security filters on our accounts.

What did you learn from the group wiki project? I learned extreme patience and fueled my desire to move forward at the same time.

Has your opinion of Wikipedia changed at all this week? I really am awed by all the tools available but was turned off by all the hoops that must be done to complete an area accurately. Consumed 49.5 hours this week.

Are you encountering resistance to using wikis in your class, either from others or from yourself? If so, how do you plan to respond? Wikis, as stated earlier, will not be an issue with the government due to the complication, lack of security measures, and amount of work time this takes to unwind for the end result. I enjoy the exposure on a personal level.

Once RSS is posted and open dialogue is established using this forum, this is by far the best way to keep track of varied topics and links for discussion.
As you stated, getting the students’ involved is the key to monitor activities and current events.
This also serves as evidence of participation and time/date of listing.

Social bookmarking will allow me to tag the ideas of co-workers and classmates that relates to a subject area being worked on for future access at a much quicker pace. This tool will also allow me to select topics that I find interesting and then have stored in one area.

RSS and the feeds it contains are very useful to streamline my blog updates and create a great way for feedback and response to new or related issues. This can only help the learning experience.

Hello world!

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Welcome to Edublogs.org. My site is kpp112@eduglogs.org.

The path of my journey to where I am now started when I was a child. I attended catholic school up until 7th grade and wanted to make learning as much fun for others as what I saw from my teachers. Although I am working in reverse to get my M.Ed. in Education, I am finally taking the initiative on my childhood goal.

Please tell us some beginning to your path!!
